Who cares?

I was enjoying a zoom lunch with a colleague the other day and they asked. “What do you get out of posting a two minute read everyday? Is it worth it?” I like this colleague, I consider them a friend so I gave this question some serious thought. I told them I would write it up once I am clear in my own head. See below for the result of that thinking:

The idea that a simple blog post everyday might have a positive effect on a reader’s day is exciting to me. So this reflection was important to nail properly.

  • Firstly, no one has to read my blog, and knowing that makes me write with humility. If a person chooses to spend two minutes with my writing in their busy day that is a blessing
  • Secondly, it forces me to write with clarity about a topic. If I confuse the reader I have wasted their time. A two minute daily post leaves very little room for wasted words

I think that is it in a nutshell. My what do I get out of posting daily? I get a daily dose of Humility and Clarity. That is not bad for something that takes up very little of my time.

For anyone interested I use http://www.hemingwayapp.com/ as a web text editor to ensure my posts are clear.

  1. Great reasons. Me, I think that every word I put out helps build my writing muscles that much more, regardless if it’s for an audience or not. And as writers, the only thing we should reward ourselves for doing is actually writing, I feel.
