Destination Addiction

The grass is always greener my Mother used to tell me. She was always wary of my ambition. Not because she wanted to stymie me but she wanted to make sure my happiness was sustainable.

She was concerned about destination addiction: The idea that happiness is in the next place, the next job, or even in the next partner.

My mother knew even then that until you give up the idea that happiness is somewhere else, it will never be where you are.
