I’m Nathan Chestney-Stagg. It’s a lot of name, so most people call me NCS.
I’m a husband to Melanie and a father to two grown-up children, who still let me tag along now and then.
The closest thing I have to a motto is be curious, not judgemental. Most of what I write here is an attempt to live up to it.
What I love
Reading, more than anything.
Chess, which I love and am quite awful at. I call it therapy.
Swimming, all year round. It’s how I relax, and on some days it’s my salvation.
I also collect postage stamps, but only ones with lighthouses on them. It’s where philately meets pharology. If you know, you know.
I’m the South Central Representative for the Association of Lighthouse Keepers and a paid-up member of the P.G. Wodehouse Society. That probably tells you more about my taste in prose than anything else on this page.
Where I live
Home is Basingstoke. Family time happens at our little place on Lancing beach.
That’s also where I built a small yellow beach hut. She’s my pride and joy: a little hut by the sea, where I do most of my thinking and writing.
This blog is what comes out of it.
Letters, thoughts, a reply to something I wrote, or simply a hello. I read everything that arrives, usually from the hut, and I try to answer when I can.
