The dog, the porch and a nail

One morning, a man was walking down a country lane and heard a horrible noise. He looked up and saw a dog on a porch that was just sitting there, whimpering, whining and moaning.

The man was curious as to why he was whimpering, so he went and knocked on the door and a guy came out he said, “what’s wrong with your dog?” The owner of the dog said, “he’s sitting on a nail., “What! The dog is sitting on a nail. Why doesn’t he get off?” “Well, it just doesn’t hurt him enough to move, it’s just hurting enough to moan and groan.”

The world is full of people like this apocryphal dog. They are in a situation bad enough to moan and groan, but not enough to do anything about it.

Don’t be the dog on the porch, get off the nail today. The world seldom cares for those who do not help themselves.

Don’t find fault, find a remedy; anybody can complain
