Starting something new

Starting something new can be an exciting and even dare I say it a daunting experience. Whether it’s a new job, or a new relationship, embarking on a new journey can bring a sense of both anticipation and anxiety. However, with the right mindset and approach, starting something new can also be incredibly rewarding and fulfilling.

I am starting a new role soon and so I wanted to give it some thought over breakfast and assemble my jumbled up thoughts into some semblance of order. You are most welcome to join me as I think about the keys to starting a new thing on the right foot.

  1. Approach it with a sense of curiosity and openness. Avoid preconceived notions and expectations, doing this can limit our ability to fully embrace and appreciate them. Instead, approach new experiences with a beginner’s mind, eager to learn and explore.
  2. Focus on the process rather than the outcome. People often become fixated on the end result, whether it’s achieving a particular goal or reaching a specific destination. However, by focusing too much on the end result, we can miss out on the joy and growth that come from the journey itself. Instead, we should focus on the process of learning, growing, and evolving, trusting that the outcome will take care of itself.
  3. Be patient and persistent when starting something new. Change and growth take time, and there will inevitably be setbacks and challenges along the way. However, by approaching new experiences with a sense of curiosity, focusing on the process rather than the outcome, and staying committed to our goals, we can overcome obstacles and achieve success.

There are other things I considered but if I am prioritising then I think these are the keys to a good start. As I am starting something new, I openly accept that it is both a scary and an exciting experience, but if I embrace a beginner’s mind, focusing on the process, and staying patient and persistent, I can hopefully embark on my new journey with confidence and enthusiasm. Wish me luck as I start something new.
