I remember reading this once in a book: “A group is a bunch of people in an elevator. A team is a bunch of people in an elevator—but the elevator’s broken!.”
It made more sense the second time I read it this week.
Because a group just shares space. A team shares responsibility.
The group waits. The team cares, notices, acts.
Inconvenience reveals alignment. Crisis reveals character.
Stuck together is one thing. Figuring it out together is another.
So this is for anyone thinking about building a team, Don’t just get them in the same room. Give them a problem to solve.
And then watch what happens.
