Who Shows Up When It’s Hard

It’s easy to be someone’s friend when it costs nothing.
A quick Gchat. A shared laugh. A joke liked, a thumbs up sent.
Convenient, comfortable, light.

But real friendship shows itself when it’s anything but convenient.
When it asks for your time when your busy.
When it interrupts your plans.
When it makes you stand up for someone when staying silent is so much easier.

Anyone can be around for the sunny days.
It’s the rainy, awkward, messy days that reveal who’s who.

Friendship means little when it’s convenient. That’s the truth of it.
It’s who calls you back when you’re hard to talk to.
Who sits beside you when you’ve made a mess of it.
Who stays with you when staying costs them something.

If it never costs anyone, it never counted
