A book recommendation and a profound passage in the book is my subject for today to consider and reflect on. Swing Time by Zadie Smith is a story about friendship and music and stubborn roots, it is about how we are shaped by these things and how we can survive them. I enjoyed White Teeth and so read Swing Time with eager anticipation and was not disappointed. I am pleased to say I enjoyed this book also.
However, the reason I write this post is there was one passage I wanted to share today.
“Sometimes I wonder if people don’t want freedom as much as they want meaning.”
Zadie Smith, Swing Time
This was so profound, it went straight into my commonplace book. I wanted to share that on this blog. I think what we all want, meaning and freedom but if we had to choose between the two, I think most would choose meaning.
Hearty handshakes from me to you
