Whether you are a specialist or you are you a generalist. Opinions are divided if there is a right path to go down. I think that you have to know the type pf person you are and if you are comfortable with the focus and depth that expertise demands. OR, If you want to be a generalist then you need to be equally as comfortable with the enormity of knowing enough about many things. With the certainty that someone near you probably knows more about their topic.
However the quote I just read in a book by Lawrence Block would suggest both choices lead to the same destination.
The specialist, it is said keeps learning more and more about less and less until they know everything about nothing. On the other hand the generalist, keeps learning less and less about more and more until he knows nothing about everything!
So I guess I am saying relax the eventual path is we all end up knowing nothing. Just enjoy the journey and own the choices you make.
