Life is hard. My mother used to say often, “Nathan, no one promised you a rose garden” Everyone of us experiences difficulties that are hard to overcome. It was Buddha that said “Pain is certain, suffering is optional.” No matter what we’re going through it is better when we take ownership and accountability for making positive steps in the right direction.
You are going to have to work at it you are going to need a can-do attitude, but you have the power do something and that is not trivial. You worrying is not trivial also, it is a silent killer and you need to be aware of it.
Let’s say you have a concern at work. Something maybe you kept to yourself, perhaps you are worrying about losing a big deal or a more personal a family member is unwell. You worrying isn’t helping that situation, and it is likely negatively impact your health through the stress that you experience.
The energy you expend worrying is usually wasted. The negative things that are on your mind tend not to happen. It was Mark Twain who said that “I am an old man and have known a great many troubles, but most of them never happened,” Mr Twain is right of course. Most of what we worry about never comes to pass, and the time we spent worrying was time and energy wasted.
It is not work that kills us; it is worry. Work is healthy and you can hardly put more upon a person than he or she can bear; but worry is the rust upon the blade.
