110% Is for Idiots
I can’t abide the term overachiever, It’s not possible for people to rise above their level of competency. We are all in some way under achievers to varying degree. Have you ever been told to give 110% effort? It’s a common phrase used in motivational speeches and self-help books, but the truth is, it’s a… Read more

Apricity
As a lover of literature and collector of words. I would like to draw your attention to the word Apricity, which means the warmth of the sun in the winter. With 5 days of the winter left in the UK we get more of these warm(ish) days now. This term comes from the Latin meaning… Read more

A Rising Tide Lifts All Boats
It seems some days there is not even enough time to manage your own workload without the idea of helping another but that is what I am suggesting you do this week. Reach out to someone and ask them how you can help them, helping can be as little as listening and offering advice. How… Read more

My Favourite Teacher Story
As my son is a school teacher now and I am a very proud father I have started to collect or notice teacher stories. This one below is one of my favourites, enjoy: A school teacher ran a test that had several sections, each of which contained three questions. He told the students to choose… Read more

Are You a Thermometer or a Thermostat Leader?
I was sitting in the living room earlier this year watching reviews of ‘Home Tech’ and it described the evolution of governing the home temperature as technology progressed. I really think there are parallels of how a modern house is now environmentally managed and how we need to manage our organisations. A thermometer; reflects the… Read more

Social Dilemma
2020 we can all agree is best forgotten but I am pleased with one thing. I have removed myself from social media and now since last month have not visited certain online news sites either. I read the guardian in paper form or iPad and if I go online it would be the BBC. If… Read more

Seen It All Before
I think we can all agree age is a very high price to pay for maturity, but what maturity teaches you is the feeling so often that you have seen that before, heard that debate before, experienced that moment before. Being married to a historian just cements this assertion. My wife reminds me that we… Read more

Fish and Chips by the Sea While Reading Books About the Sea
Some weekends the pleasure of being alive is just within reach and the warmness of the moment is understandable also. It’s a gift to be alive. And each moment, each breathe we take is literally the chance of a lifetime. Read more

OK Breathe, Orange Coloured Beach Sky
Arrived at the beach and saw this orange coloured sky as we were unpacking. The sound of the waves, the smell of the salty sea will always be a trigger for me to relax and breathe. The Friday night long drive after a long week is always worth it once we arrive and are met… Read more

UK Beach Sunset August 2020
I return to this spot so often to photograph as it has for me all that is wonderful about a British beach sunset. A pebble beach, a calm tranquil blue ocean, slowly lapping white waves juxtapose to the most glorious reds and oranges. I cannot see a sunset now with out thinking of the A.E.… Read more
