Apricity

As a lover of literature and collector of words. I would like to draw your attention to the word Apricity, which means the warmth of the sun in the winter. With 5 days of the winter left in the UK we get more of these warm(ish) days now.

This term comes from the Latin meaning “to bask in the sun.” I hope you will warm to the idea of adding it to your vocabulary. As I walk to think and to consider the words I write the warmth on my skin tells me that spring is not far and with that comes cricket, cider and nesting birds. Perhaps even some new professional beginnings.

The late evening walk at and this photo I took exemplifies the word – ‘Apricity’ the warmth of a winter sun.

PS: If you are interested I took this photo at the Shoreham air crash memorial. A series of arches, each individually designed in tribute to the victims. The 11 men died when a vintage Hawker Hunter jet crashed mid-display and exploded into a fireball on the A27 in West Sussex on August 22 2015. The memorial sits on the banks of the River Adur by the Shoreham Toll Bridge.
